How many clothes can you buy in a lifetime wear in a lifetime waste in a lifetime?” It is not everyday that we have the opportunity to put our ecological consciousness into action, and at the same time express our emotions creatively about this planet that hosts us. “Earth, my Earth” embodies exactly this opportunity.

Kynourio Soma, hosted by Fingerprint Dance collaborated with local artists and associations of Bridport to create the Earth my Earth-Dorset edition.

The groups who embraced the project are: Bridport Youth Dance including dancers from The Weavers, No limits intergrated dance company, Grace + Growl dance company of mature performers, Bridport School of Regenerative Fashion, Bridport Food Matters, Harbour House Residential Care Home for the elderly, West Bay Swimmers Action Group. Each community group brought their expertise, knowledge and passion to the project creating a multi faceted event with workshops, performances, collaborative installation, sustainable living activities and a shared community meal.

The imprints of the journey of Earth my Earth-Bridport edition, remain as strong and deep with a sweet and warm loving taste. This is quite controversial to our theme which is not at all “sweet, warm and loving”. It is sad and intimidating. The way our western world deals with the way it dresses and consumes clothes, is damaging the lives of people all over our planet.

This issue is out of control, leaving the feeling that there is nothing that we can do. However, we can change what we do as individuals and through Earth my Earth we were able to offer the space and time to face the dimension of what we create, to contemplate upon our own practices and to discover alternative ways of acting as far as clothes and textiles are concerned.

Specifically, we looked at the value of our clothes in time not only as material but also as carriers of emotion.  We practiced alternative solutions to prolong their life, heard, discussed and shared knowledge between each other not only as individuals but also as part of our associations and our community.
